Mark studied business management and banking at Rice University while working nights at First City National Bank and summers for a Houston car dealership. The sales bug bit him and he parlayed his management and finance skills into becoming the youngest automotive sales manager in Houston.
After 27 years in the car business as salesman, manager and then dealership owner, Mark was willing to relocate from Northern California to South Carolina so his wife, Pam Thompson, could have her beloved horses “at home”! Mark worked as a “turn around specialist” for several South Carolina and Georgia dealers helping increase profits so the dealers could sell their stores for the best possible price.
In 2002, Pam saw a “for rent” sign on a storefront in downtown Aiken. She and Mark decided to open a downtown Real Estate office. Mark “retired” from the car business and joined Pam to make Laissez Faire Properties the only company open on weekends! This 24/7 service helped push Laissez Faire Properties to be one of the top real estate offices in Aiken and their average sales price to the highest in the Aiken Multiple Listing Service over and over again. Their beautiful offices, high sales price average and production statistics came to the notice of Sotheby’s International Realty who asked Mark and Pam to become franchise owners in 2006. In order to concentrate on the part of the business, they enjoy most, SALES, Mark and Pam merged with RE/MAX COLLECTION Tattersall Group, the luxury division of RE/MAX INTERNATIONAL in May of 2014. Without the time required to manage and run a successful real estate office, Mark's sales and listings have increased and he is enjoying the top service he offers his clients more than ever before!

Mark also started working with owners of large tracts of land, helping them develop new equestrian communities, small subdivisions and designing “build packages” on lots for sale. Mark and Pam purchased the Legare-Morgan House, the second oldest home in the City of Aiken in 2007. This property had been a successfu gourmet restaurant, No. 10 Downing, for 30 years. Mark and Pam saw the potential and remodeled the space into four, fully furnished apartments for a successful rental investment property. They managed and then sold this positive cash flow property in 2012 and sold it again this summer to another buyer seeking downtown Aiken rental investment properties. Along with team member, Jacob Klarman and Pam, they are successfully managing this property once again along with about three dozen other rental properties for investment clients. .

Jacob comes from a “Realtor Family” on both sides of his family tree….his paternal grandparents owned a C-21 Real Estate office in New Jersey and still own more than three dozen rental properties. His maternal grandparents, Mark and Pam Thompson, opened Laissez Faire Properties in Aiken in 1997 which then became Laissez Faire Sotheby’s International Realty and then merged with RE/MAX COLLECTION Tattersall Group in May, 2014.
